Circuit information

The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is held in Sakhir, approximately 30 kilometers south-west of the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Manama. This unique circuit was designed in 2002 by Hermann Tilke, the German architect who designed most of the Formula 1 race tracks in the past decade.  The $150 million project was not yet finished in 2004 when the first ever F1 grand prix of the Arab World was held. The circuit is unique in many aspects one of which is that it consists of six individual tracks, two of which can be used at the same time. The Formula 1 Grand Prix uses the Inner and Outer Circuits of the complex.

The 5.4 km Grand Prix circuit was designed with the spectator in mind: the 50,000 grandstand seats, all providing excellent views of the cars heading into the desert area, before coming back into the oasis-styled infield.  The track offers the driver a unique experience in the way the circuit's width varies at the end of the different straights which allows for diverse racing lines.

The 2007 FIA Institute Centre of Excellence trophy was presented to the Bahrain International Circuit at the FIA Gala in Monaco which represents the Circuit's achievement in maintaining the highest standards in safety, race marshal, and medical facilities.
